2015 is coming to a close, and it’s time to usher in 2016 with a bang. If the same-old New Year’s plans have you yawning before the clock strikes midnight, try one of these options for ringing in the New Year in Chicago.
Head to the riverfront
Chicago will play host to its first ever large scale New Year’s Eve event reminiscent of Times Square – Chi-Town Rising. This outdoor celebration on the river between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive will include live music, fireworks and a midnight countdown that will feature a giant star drop.
Attend a concert
Take advantage of the chance to catch a few extra hours of shut-eye on New Year’s Day by taking in a late night New Year’s Eve concert. Plenty of musical acts ranging from Brandi Carlile to Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings will flood the city’s venues, so choose your preferred genre and find a spot to settle in.
Have a few laughs
Share a few laughs with your friends at a comedy show like the New Year’s Eve Comedy Jam at the Arie Crown Theater near McCormick Place. Don’t want to leave the kids at home? Check out one of ComedySportz’s three New Year’s Eve family shows at the CSz Theater Chicago.
Finish 2015 on a high note by indulging in a culinary feast at any of Chicago’s restaurants. Many establishments offer New Year’s specials, like Balena in Lincoln Park, where you can enjoy a four-course meal with optional wine pairings. At Howells & Hood, choose between two meal packages and then walk to the Chi-Town Rising celebration.
Experience Navy Pier in a new way
It’s the 10th anniversary of the Crystal Gardens New Year’s party at Navy Pier, and you won’t want to miss this semi-formal event. Enjoy catered food and libations from more than 20 liquor bars before watching fireworks from a private terrace. A DJ will keep the party going even after the midnight champagne toast.
