Shedd’s special exhibit Amphibians introduces you to more than 40 species of frogs, salamanders and rarely seen caecilians. Of course, that also includes toads, which are in the frog family, and newts, sirens and amphiumas, all part of the salamander clan.
Some will be familiar, like our local spring peepers and bullfrogs, while others, like the giant Japanese salamander, may astonish you and have you reconsidering your definition of amphibians. You’ll meet amphibians from every continent where they’re found, which is to say all but Antarctica, and even see a variety of tadpoles in all stages of metamorphosis. (Need we say that baby amphibians are cute?)
Meet a few of the faces of Amphibians here!
