Missing football already?
At this weekend’s Draft Town, fans can celebrate the spirit of the sport in Grant Park while hearing real-time draft results.
For the second consecutive year, Chicago is playing host to the NFL Draft, and the city is celebrating through Saturday with a free festival in the park for fans.
Draft Town runs from noon to 10 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Here are a few things to know before you go:
While the draft plays out at nearby Roosevelt University, festival-goers can learn about draft picks as they are revealed and announced at the site’s “Selection Square,” located near Buckingham Fountain.
If visitors aren’t near Selection Square, no worries. Screens are placed throughout the park so fans to keep abreast of all of the draft action as it happens.
Let’s play ball!
In addition, to awaiting draft results, there are plenty of ways to keep busy at Draft Town.
Over 19,000 square feet of space on the festival grounds will include interactive games, football clinics for the little ones and autographs from famous faces in the NFL.
The Sun-Times reports, the Vince Lombardi Trophy will be at Draft Town, along with entertainment such as a Ferris wheel, NFC and AFC replica locker rooms, a tailgate area and sets for the NFL Network and ESPN.
Visitors can get physical at attractions such as the 40-yard-dash, where their speed is tested against that of a pro player on an LED screen. There’s also a vertical jump that mirrors the those in the the scouting combine.
There will even be cool features such as jersey personalization in the NFL Pro Shop. This will be in real time so as players are paired with teams, fan can make a jersey to match.
Food and drinks
Just like going to a game at the stadium, Draft Town will come complete with plenty of edible options and places where visitors can purchase a few frosty brews to wash it all down. DNAInfo reported this week that concessions from local grilled cheese emporium Cheesie’s will be onsite, as will offering from Asian bun-making Wow Bao and burgers from the famed Billy Goat Tavern.
You’re sure to get thirsty, so be sure to stop by the “Draft Tavern” bar with Bud Light and other beers on tap at Jackson Boulevard and Columbus Drive.
