You can celebrate Oktoberfest early this year with Oak Park’s Oaktoberfest celebration on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19. Head to downtown Oak Park at Marion Street and North Boulevard to enjoy this free event, which includes music from local and national acts, a kid-friendly root beer garden and an array of microbrew, wine and ethnic food options.

Beginning on Friday at 4:30 p.m., you can enjoy live music from Antony + the Tramps (American Gypsy) and Tall Walker (Rock, Indie, Pop). Headliner Holly Williams (Americana) will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. Day two highlights musical acts Cardinal Harbor at 2:30 p.m. (Rock), Seabird at 4:30 p.m. (Rock, Alternative), Lili K. at 6:30 p.m. (Soul, Jazz) and headliner Uncle Lucius (Americana Roots Rock) at 8:30 p.m.

Along North Boulevard, event participants can enjoy seasonal eats from downtown Oak Park restaurants. The over 21 crowd can spring for a $20 package that includes a 22-ounce Oaktoberfest souvenir mug and three drink tickets valid for microbrews and wine. Volunteers from the Sugar Beet Schoolhouse (Friday) and Huskie Wrestling Family (Saturday) will be on hand to assist, and any tips will support their non-profit organizations.

On Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., kids and the young at heart can enjoy the root beer garden on Marion Street. Kids can create and race their own zucchini cars or complete a ninja obstacle course, in addition to games and activities sponsored by local organizations.
