A full day at local spots around Near North/Old Town/Gold Coast

Start your day grabbing breakfast at Doma Cafe, and then take a seat and spend some time people-watching at Washington Square Park, then head up Wells St to Slant of Light Books and Mercy Beaucoup Resale for a little shopping (they're right next to each other!) Then pop over to Gussie's Handmade Italian for happy hour and dinner. And finally, take a long stroll down to double fun on State and Elm. Now, I'm not usually a fan of many of the Gold Coast bars, admittedly...but this one is worth your time.

A note from our CEO

Welcome to chicago.com

We built this place for the Chicago region we believe in: one where people know their neighbors, communities have healthy conversations, and public spaces truly serve the public.

Too often, digital spaces are built by for-profit tech companies that place their business models ahead of the community. As nonprofit public media, we’re putting the community first. We want to build a platform for everyone in the Chicago area and we want to build it with you.

We’re a work in progress, starting small and building as we go. What you see today will look different a year from now. So take a look around. Make a guide. Discover a new local spot. Connect with your neighbors. And tell us how to make this space more useful to you and to our city.

We’re so happy you’re here.
